A note or two about Rulership in Horoscope Analysis

In addition to typical measurements like aspects and reading planets in
signs and houses, there is another every elegant interpretative method.
That method being the consideration of planetary rulership. When I use the
term rulership, I am referring to the planet that rules each house. Not always,
but often it is the planet that rules the sign on the cusp of each house. So
for example, say that one sees Gemini on the cusp of the 5th house. Than
Mercury will rule 5th house concerns. This suggesting that ideas, communication
and “mind” are an active part of the art of giving to others in relationships.
Those endeavors that might be considered creative would also have a very
active intellectual component. Over all a very promising and positive
indication on the 5th cusp.

However lets suppose that the 4h house ruler is Pluto and that it is in
square aspect with Saturn. Putting aside any immediate interpretation
of the aspect, the very nature of a square aspect would suggest a
great deal of tension is focused on that particular house. Now we also
know that the 4th house cusp can represent a parent, so in addition to
the house being under tension, we can surmise that most likely one of
the parents was also not likely meeting his/her obligations as a role
model. Altogether it fits, if the parent had not measured up to his/her
archetypical role, then most likely 4th house issues, family issues were
also under a great deal of stress. Also the ruler on the opposing
cusp, opposing end of that same axis, can be considered the “other”
parent. I certainly would want to see if there are any aspects between
those two planets and to consider the nature of the aspect, because
such consideration might be suggestive of the relationship between
the parents.

This rulership idea is most important because it becomes a integral
part of the analysis of each chart. In effect we see the Planet
placements and the aspects providing so much basic information. But
the rulership of each house adds a holistic and very practical
element. In a fairly quick glance we can see the houses that are
under stress. And those important life areas may suggest the purpose
and direction of the Astrological consultation.

Thanks I really appreciate it...I have a lot of articles, and can post a lot more, but it would be nice to actually have more discussion take place.
