The Mayan Calendar and 2012

Posted On: Wed, 06/11/2008 - 2:07pm by JoeAstrologer

I have been thinking about the Mayan Calendar and the year 2012. For those of you that are not familiar with all the different ideas about the end of the Mayan calendar, which apparently comes to a halt on Dec 21, 2012, there are a host of books and articles about the subject.

Astrological events developing from now through 2012 are also suggestive of great change. Between the two, the Mayan calendar and Astrological events, lots of ideas are suggested. We are clearly in a tremendous time of world change and spiritual change.

My work as an Astrologer is not so much about understanding world events as it is simply helping individuals, one by one. However each individual is very much a part of the whole world family. And as a member of this vast family, all of us experience impact from world events. We are all connected.

I thought that it would be interesting to consider how an individual’s chart can relate to specific upcoming Astrological times. For example how might a persons chart relate to the December 21, 2012 planetary placements, as well as other significant periods leading up to 2012. What especially drew my attention to this idea, was a realization that my chart actually has a very strong connection to the 2012 chart as well as the grand cross chart that occurs on June 25, 2010.

My Natal Sun is opposed the Transit Sun; Transit Pluto is opposed my natal Mar; Transit Mars is opposed my natal Mercury; Transit Uranus is square my Natal Sun as well as the Transit Sun and Pluto; Transit Venus is opposed my Natal MC, and thats not all! This is such an amazing collection of Aspects, and I wonder how everyones chart intersects with that date, and what unique meaning can be suggested for each individual.

I must tell you that I do have an aggressive form of cancer. I seem to have the power to keep it under control, however I have not yet discover personal or external resources necessary to have a complete cure. But, it’s early, and I do trust that those resources that I need will arrive when necessary. My point being that I’m not sure I will be here, on planet earth, on December 2012. However, I expect I will be, who could miss such an Astrological event?

Let’s quickly consider what those aspects might mean for me. Sun opposed Sun suggests a great focus on self-expression and identity especially supportive of family, the transit Sun is in the 4th house, at an Aries Point. With the Aries Point involvement, a suggestion of family being much broader than just my immediate family. In other words, it suggest an involvement with the greater society, leadership involving the community at large. Pluto opposed Mars suggests a persuasiveness, excessive effort, tied to the 4th and 10th house suggest a tremendous social role. Uranus square to the natal Sun and Pluto suggest an intensity to this mission. The Sun plays such a vital role, I need to note that it rules the 12th house in my chart, this suggest to me that any mission or leadership that I might display at that period in time relates to spiritual and psychological needs. Transit Mars opposed natal Mercury suggest energized ideas, thinking (that I could use). Transit Venus opposed the MC suggests loving support of others. All together a comprehensive view that suggests a great deal of leadership. I suspect that in some amazing way, many, many people have natal charts that connect to the 2012 date in a highly suggestive way. After all, I believe we are a collective of beings by design meant to be supportive of each other.

On June 25, 2010 there will be a grand cross of such magnitude as to suggest a once in a life time event. At the time of that grand cross, the transiting Sun conjuncts my natal Sun and Transiting Pluto is opposed my natal Sun position. Transit Uranus is square to my natal Sun and as well as transiting Pluto. This seems to be a time of great initiation leading to a changing world perspective. During these upcoming years Astrologers will have a unique opportunity to connect individuals to a changing individual and corporate reality. A fantastic opportunity to collectively bring healing to the human family.

There is so much more that I can suggest regarding the relationship of my birth chart to these dates. However, what might be even more interesting is to examine how your chart might reflect upon these upcoming dates.

Astrology probably evolved

Astrology probably evolved from primitive times when man first related the events of his life to a power stronger than himself.

More thoughts about the Mayan end date

Some further thoughts on the Mayan Calendar.

Taking a further look at the Dec 21, 2012 horoscope a couple of ideas came to mind. First, by its self the chart is not really all that unique, as compared to the 2010 chart for example. With that recognition I need to point out that there are three primary ways to look at a future transit chart.

First one can simple analyze it as it presents itself. Second, one can take into consideration those aspects or particularities that historically stand out in a mundane horoscope. For example if we see Saturn square, opposed or conjunct Pluto we often can predict a great upset. An eclipse is always suggestive. Also Jupiter and Saturn have a conjunction every 20 year, opposition about every 10 years, and these events usually relate to historical events. But we see none of those things in the chart for 2012.

The third option is to compare the chart to another chart. Comparing the 2012 date to my horoscope for example, yields some interesting results. However comparing the 2012 chart to the most widely accepted United States horoscope yields lots of aspects. [US Mars conjunct Pluto, US Jupiter square Uranus, US Neptune opposed the Mayan Ascendant, US Uranus opposed Mercury].

What does all this mean? I don’t want to make specific predictions. But a couple points come to mind. First, nations will respond to these dates. Second, I believe that many people will find that these dates, especially the 2012 date, relates to their horoscope. Finally, I believe this suggests that as a human family we are being drawn to take responsibility for the world we live in. Many seemingly ordinary people are being called upon to roles of leadership. That so many charts reflect connecting points with these dates, significant to the Mayan calendar, suggests that many have a role in the healing the earth, and restoring the dignity of the human family.
